The title of this trip says it all – Love Thy Neighbor! Slovenia and Croatia are neighboring countries, and close proximity of Slovenian and Croatian Istria make them a perfect destination for a single trip. The area has numerous stories waiting to be discovered, from magical alpine landscapes of Slovenia, to charming historical towns around inland and the Adriatic coast.

With very little time spent driving around, you will experience multiple different cultures, visit exciting places, discover variety of landscapes and taste delicious authentic kitchen of both countries!

Day 1 / Arrival in Ljubljana

Welcome to Slovenia! You will arrive at Ljubljana Airport, meet your private driver and head off towards your accommodation.

There are no additional plans for the rest of the day, but we suggest going for an evening walk and dinner downtown.
Overnight in Ljubljabna.

Day 2 / Meet Ljubljana

After breakfast, meet your local guide in the city center and explore the emerald-green soul of this city, settled on the flow of Ljubljanica river. Ljubljana is Slovenian capital city boasting with students and youth today, built around the river banks, with beautifully preserved Ljubljana Castle dominating on top of a green hill over the core of traditional European architecture with red-tiled roofs, historical and modern pedestrian bridges and many cultural landmarks spread around charming squares, streets and alleys.

Spend the rest of the day at your leisure; continue exploring this ever-pulsing city, maybe do some shopping or take a meal at some of the authentic Slovenian restaurants we recommend.
Overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 3 / Over Postojna towards Croatia

Bid farewell with Ljubljana in the morning and head off towards magical Postojna cave, located underground about 45 minutes of driving from Ljubljana. Postojna is one of the world’s most captivating caves with magnificent cave formations and diverse fauna where you will take an exciting underground train ride around this subterranean paradise.

Later you will take a short, ten minute drive, to arrive before a fairytale Predjama castle, a castle carved into the rocky, 130-metre-tall cliff that has been built more than 800 years ago to take the title of the world’s largest carved castle.

Enjoy an authentic three-course Slovenian lunch afterwards at a traditional restaurant in a small town near Postojna.
Arrival in serene village of Oprtalj in Croatia later that day followed by a free evening. Overnight in Oprtalj.

Day 4 / Hum & Motovun Day Trip

Day four takes place in the inland of Istria when you will visit couple of most distinctive places in the region – towns of Hum and Motovun.

Your first stop is in Hum – officialy the smallest city in the world, with only a few dozen of inhabitants and functioning city bodies. The charming city was built around Middle and has suffered a turbulent past, but today Hum offers an abundance of homemade products made by friendly locals such as olives, truffles and herb brandies that are available for sampling.

Later you will move on towards Motovun, another medieval city built in a spiral shape from the top of the hill downwards, dominating over green valley of Mirna river. Benefitial geographical position, great weather conditions and dedicated locals make this area packing with vineyards and fresh truffles from nearby forests, which is why you can’t miss out on a fantastic three-course lunch meal followed by a wine tasting in the valley!
Return to Oprtalj later today. Overnight in Oprtalj.

Day 5 / Towards Rovinj

After breakfast, you will drive out straight towards the coastal town of Rovinj.

Built on a tiny islet and connected to the mainland in 18th century, this city exudes by the past as you will navigate through the narrow streets and alleys of the old town. Rovinj is considered as one of the most romantic and picturesque destinations on the Mediterranean, and be sure you will know why as soon as you experience the scenery of red-tiled roofs, carefully planned green areas, welcoming locals and warm climate.

When you have arrived here, you’ll have entire day for yourselves to explore this wonderful place, move to the beach and taste delicious seafood while enjoying the views over the old town and surrounding green islets.
Overnight in Rovinj.

Day 6 / Island Leisure

In the morning you will head off towards the town of Fažana and take a short boat ride to reach Brijuni islands archipelago, one of the most attractive National parks in Croatia. It consists of a group of islands just off the Western coast of Istria and the city of Pula, popular for being a weekend residence loaction of the former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito and boasts with abundance of exciting sites set in unaltered nature.

Later you will move on towards Pula, the largest city in Istria that is most known for its incredibly preserved Roman amphitheatre and thousand-years-long history that radiates throughout every corner of the cobbled old town. You are free to explore Pula at your own leisure.
Return to Rovinj later that day. Overnight in Rovinj.

Day 7 / Over City of Artists towards Slovenian Coast

Day seven starts with a scenic drive back towards Slovenia, when you will make a stop in Grožnjan, a small Istrian town built on a hilltop. Grožnjan is a town of great cultural significance that flourishes during warmer months when its’ streets and squares are turned into a real hive of art with exhibitions and workshops of art, dance and drama led by renowned and sound experts in the field – hence the nickname ‘The City of Artists’.

You can also indulge yourselves in tastes of delicious local products at numerous family stores found at almost every corner of the small town.
Continue driving towards Slovenian coast and enjoy the free rest of the day. Overnight in Portorož.

Day 8 / Piran, Portorož & Slovenian Istria

After breakfast you will meet your walking guide at the main square in Piran and discover this historic small town set at the very end of the Piranese peninsula. Meet the city that boasts with timeless romantic charm, deep-rooted traditions and typical Mediterranean narrow town streets, squares and architecture. You will even climb the walls of Piran to admire the beautiful town from above.

After the tour, you will move to adjacent town of Portorož where you will have free time to explore this charming coastal tourist destination, practically entirely set on a seaside promenade. Portorož is distinctive for the series of lavish hotels set along the promenade, variety of worldwide cuisine and exciting nightlife.

Later in the afternoon, you will take on an inspiring wine tasting experience during sunset in Slovenian Istria’s hinterland region in a renowned wine maker estate where you will taste multiple types of local wine accompanied with organic appetizers.

Day 9 / Blending in

Today you will move towards Bled in Slovenia while making an exciting scenic tour of astonishing Soča River Valley that stretches in between the mountains of Slovenian Alps and Triglav National Park. The magical emerald green river, considered as one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe, streams down many waterfalls, cascades and narrow rocky gorges, carving incredible canyons and pools along the way.

You will see multiple sites today, starting with WW1 German Charnel House, famous Napoleon’s bridge, unreal Kozjak waterfall and Grand Canyon of Soča and spend some quality time out in the nature. Your traditional Slovenian lunch of three courses is arranged in small town of Kobarid.

You will continue your journey towards Bled, while enjoying the ride over Vršić Pass, a twisty mountain road that provides spectacular views over surrounding mountain tops, lakes and valleys.
Free evening after arrival in Bled. Overnight in Bled.

Day 10 / Blending in

On day ten you will explore the beauties of Nature’s work put in at beautiful Lake Bled in Julian Alps of the Upper Carniolan region of Slovenia, where it adjoins a serene small town of Bled.

You will first take a traditional Pletna boat ride, paddled by experienced sailors, to reach the only island in entire country that has a picturesque church built on it. On return, you can take a short walk before moving to explore the awestrucking medieval Bled Castle built on top of a steep cliff above the lake, and quite possibly the oldest castle in Slovenia, providing a dramatic image together with the lake and the church island from its’ terraces.

You will have a three course delicious lunch included on a castle terrace with traditional Slovenian cream pie dessert.

After the lunch has settled, move on towards Vintgar Gorge just a few kilometers away from Bled and explore this beautiful piece of nature carved amidst the glorious vertical walls, highlighted by river waterfalls, pools and rapids.

Day 11 / Departure from Ljubljana

Meet your driver on time and head off towards Ljubljana airport for departure. Have a safe flight back home!
